ESSEX U175 TEAM - THE 1993/94 SEASON
During the SCCU campaign the team's overall performances were no more than average. However with a five team division being completely dominated by Kent, a relatively modest match point total would in the event suffice for qualification for the National Stages in second place. So it was that despite only having 1 out of 4 at the half way stage and 2 out of 6 coming into March, the team managed to qualify by virtue of winning its last two matches.
As the SCCU runner-up, Essex were drawn to play a preliminary round match against reigning champions Greater Manchester. Although several regulars were missing on this occasion, a convincing victory was recorded, aided and abetted by the time handicap that many of the opponents suffered from as a result of their late arrival. However, Lancashire in the first (but by no means the last) meeting between the Counties at U175 level proved too strong on the day in the quarter final.
