Middlesex were to coast to the SCCU championship this season, and it is easy to see why when they were able to field a team with 11 players graded 170 or over. Essex were missing Paul Williamson, Karl Mah and Colin Ramage, and had a no show on board 8 obliging captain David Smith to bring himself in as a substitute. In the circumstances, the team did well to pick up as many game points as they did.
