A thoroughly workmanlike performance by Essex saw the chances of qualification for the National Stages preserved by this convincing 11-5 win. There was some very good chess played with Sreve Harvey's sacrificial attack (see below) taking pride of place, but Roy Heppinstall also won well in an unbalanced ending in which he had a rook and two pawns for a knight and bishop.
