This was a mis-match between an Essex team already confirmed as SCCU champions and a weakened Sussex side that knew that qualification was no longer possible. The only issue at stake was whether Essex could become the first County since the old second teams competition was reconstituted as the U175 championship to complete the qua;ifying event with a 100% record. This was duly achieved, as Sussex did nothing to help their cause by defaulting the bottom two boards, and did well to pick up as many points as they did given the disparity in the grades.
