This represented Essex's 13th straight win against Surrey at U175 level. Nevertheless, since Adrian Waldock took over as Surrey captain for 2000/1 the County has steadily been getting its act together, and a much stronger Surrey sixteen than the side which played in this season's first clash at Coulsdon gave the home team a good run for their money.
