THE CAPES TROPHY 2001

The Capes Trophy is an annual lightning (5 minute) team tournament organised by John Capes of Edmonton as a curtain raiser to the season. This year's event (the 42nd) was run as an all play all in view of the lower than usual entry of 12 teams, two of which represented Wanstead & Woodford. The first team set the pace in the early rounds but fell away in the latter stages to finish fourth; the second team was quite heavily outgunned by some of the opposition but managed to finish equal 10th
